In June 2006, AVENUE Q THE MUSICAL travelled across the Atlantic to the UK and opened in London's West End, re-opening the Noël Coward Theatre (formerly the Albery Theatre). Alan Brodie from The Noël Coward Foundation said, "We are delighted that AVENUE Q is the first production in the newly re-named Noël Coward Theatre. It is witty, irreverent, musical and above all entertaining, all elements that Noël Coward himself would have heartily approved. I'm sure Noël would have loved this show."

There were no survivors. This was a tragedy that shocked the world. HAIRSPRAY
Piccadilly Theatre
Mon-Thu 19.30 ¦ Fri 17.00 & 20.30 ¦ Sat 15.00 & 19.30
Hairspray, the musical

Hairspray is based on the 1988 John Waters movie Hairspray. The songs include 1960s-style dance music and "downtown" rhythm and blues.

In 1962 ( the '50s are out and change is in the air ) Baltimore, Maryland, plump teenager Tracy Turnblad's ( a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart ) dream is to dance on The Corny Collins Show, a local TV dance program based on the real-life Buddy Deane Show. When Tracy wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight. She then launches a campaign to racially integrate the show. Hairspray is a social commentary on the injustices of parts of American society in the 1960's.

Just when being a supersize has become a mortal sin, Tracy Turnblad rolls into the West End. She’s a ball of fun, chubby and cheerful but oh, so light on her sturdy stumps and determined to be, er, huge on the Corny Collins television show as a dancing queen.

Hairspray is set in the segregated Sixties in Baltimore, when being fat was a fault (Tracy’s generously portioned laundress mother, a warm and wonderful Michael Ball in glamorous drag, reminds her:‘They don’t put people like us on television, except to be laughed at’) but being black was a crime. That means both Ten-ton Tracy and skinny, black Inez are turned away from auditions for the title Miss Hairspray 1962.

JERSEY BOYS
Prince Edward Theatre
Mon-Sat 19.30 ¦ Tue & Sat 14.30
Jersey Boys, the musical

Jersey Boys is a new musical based on the life story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons: Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito, and Nick Massi. The musical chronicles the lives of a group of blue-collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks who went on to become one of the biggest pop music sensations of their time. Jersey Boys features their hit songs, including "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Rag Doll," "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You," and "Oh What a Night."

So there's this kid, Frankie Castelluccio, and he sings like an angel. An angel. He's living in the suburbs in New Jersey, destined to be a barber, until he meets Tommy DeVito, a savvy hustler with a guitar and a vision. Tommy's the guy who can get Frankie (and himself) out of Jersey. Nick Massi, another guy with a musical gift, joins up with them, but trios are out, quartets are in. Where's the fourth man for the group? Little Joey Fishes (that's Pesci—yeah, that Joe Pesci) finds him, a prodigy named Bob Gaudio; Frankie's wife Mary tells him to spell his stage name with an "i" at the end instead of a "y" (that would be: Valli); and the neon sign of the Four Seasons Lounge gives them their new name. Gaudio writes songs—can he come up with the smasheroo hit that will give Frankie and the boys their own distinctive sound and turn them into superstars?

You bet he can. After loads of false starts, he pens a thing that goes She - e - e-e-e-e-ry baby (Sherry baby) She - e - rry, can you come out tonight - And the rest, as they say, is history.

This musical is new hit musical. We're talking positive vibes exploding around the room like hyperactive—radioactive!—jumping beans; a room full of people on stage and in the audience so jazzed and so in synch with the unabashed delight of the thing that they can hardly contain themselves, so that when Frankie and Tommy and Bob and Nick finally break through with "Sherry," the audience cheers.

This unforgettable story is JERSEY BOYS - the smash hit Broadway musical sensation, which opens in the West End in February 2008.

Featuring all their classic hits:
"SHERRY" "BIG GIRLS DON´T CRY" "CAN´T TAKE MY EYES OFF YOU" "BYE, BYE, BABY (BABY, GOODBYE)" "WORKING MY WAY BACK TO YOU" "DECEMBER 1963 (OH, WHAT A NIGHT)" "WALK LIKE A MAN" and more.

Joseph, the musical. Photo by Tristram Kenton

The story of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat: In the summer of 1967, Andrew Lloyd Webber was asked by Alan Doggett, head of the Music Department at Colet court, St Paul's Junior School who taught his younger brother, Julian, to write a 'pop cantata' for the school choir to sing at their Easter end of term concert.
Andrew immediately approached his friend Tim Rice to ask if he would write lyrics for the project. After toying with ideas about spies, 007's and the like, Tim suggested the story of Joseph. Although Joseph has been performed by both professional and amateur companies all over the world and by thousands of schools, this is the first professional production to incorporate the children's choir as an integral part of the production. This colourful retelling of the biblical story about dreamboat Joseph, his uncanny abilities and his designer coat sings out to young and old alike with a score which is wall to wall hits - including Close Every Door and Any Dream Will Do.

For a limited season only, and with a young company led by a new star, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT is sure to be the hot ticket in West End
