AFTER 15 years trying to get off the runway, London Heathrow's Terminal 5 has been officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen's visit to Heathrow comes more than 50 years after she opened the airport's first passenger terminal in 1955.

The giant $9 billion structure, which will increase Heathrow's capacity by 30 million passengers a year, was unveiled amid tight security after a series of demonstrations by protests. The new terminal, known as T5, is Britain's largest single span building, stretching to the size of 50 football pitches over its five floors. It also boasts the largest airport lounge complex in the world, capable of holding 2500 people.
