Christmas - LondonLondon to celebrate Nordic cuisine with new event!

The Great Nordic Feast, a weekend-long celebration of Scandinavian food, will take place for the first time at London’s Southbank Centre from 20th to 22nd October. Eight destinations will cook up tasty treats from the lands of the midnight sun for food lovers to enjoy. The event will offer visitors the chance to experience wide-ranging Nordic delicacies and the cooking of various Nordic chefs.

The feast aims to introduce tastes from Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland as well as the more unknown Nordic countries of the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Åland to the UK. The event will feature Nordic talks and music and guests will learn how to cook using traditional Nordic techniques, inside Scandinavian-style tipi tents on Southbank Centre’s Festival Terrace.

A Nordic feast will see leading chefs from across the Nordic regions and the UK cook up a creative Nordic eating experience. The feast will feature an array of dishes based on Nordic ingredients, and groups can sit down to this for lunch or for dinner during a visit.

Christmas - LondonChristmas starts early!

too early? ......

Iconic department store Selfridges launched yesterday its Christmas shop across its London, Manchester and Birmingham stores. That's a mere 147 days before the man in the big red suit turns up. The Oxford Street stalwart reckons it is the first department store in the world to launch its Christmas shop. Whether its baubles, wrapping paper or crackers (Selfridges say they have 80 different options in stock) the yellow department store giant is ready and raring to go.

Selfridges said the early launch "is simply addressing this growing demand for convenience Christmas shopping outside the traditional Christmas season from many of our customers” and added that large numbers of customers "love to Christmas shop very early in the year to get it wrapped and taken off their to-do list."

above the city

Who dares wins ......

London’s most dizzying pop-up (certainly not for those with a fear of heights) returns this summer. London in the Sky, a bar and restaurant suspended 100 ft in the air, will take up residency at Chelsea’s Art College from July 19th – 30th 2017.

Enjoy the stunning views while chefs like Pascal Aussignac (Club Gascon), Robert Ortiz (Lima) and Callum Frank (Holborn Dining Room) serve up their signature dishes. Each evening Mayfair cocktail bar Mr Fogg’s will shake up four cocktails for each guest during the night-time flights. Served alongside a selection of nibbles.

London in the Sky seats just 22 diners at a time and will be open for breakfast (£50), lunch (£125), champagne high tea (£75), dinner (£150-200) and cocktails (£75). Diners are securely fastened in at ground level before their elevated dining experience begins and the table is lifted 100 ft into the air.

Borough Market LondonWelcome to the best city in the world!

London is the world’s top tourism destination

London been named as the world’s best city to visit in the prestigious Times, Sunday Times and Sunday Times Travel Magazine Awards. It’s the fourth year in a row that London has scooped Best City, ranking ahead of New York, Venice, Paris, Sydney, Las Vegas and Dubai.

To have won this reader nominated award for the fourth time shows that people really do love this multicultural city which offers a unique visitor experience few other places on earth can match.

Despite stiff competition from the likes of Paris, Barcelona, Venice and New York, London came out on top. It just goes to show how much the capital has to offer and how it continues to regenerate itself and create a buzz.

Record numbers of tourists continue to travel to London each year. The city received 31.5 million visits in 2015 including 12.9 million tourists from Great Britain. A recent survey found that 90 per cent of American visitors (and 80 per cent of UK visitors), who’d travelled to the capital in the last two years, rated London’s cultural attractions as the best in the world.

Houses of Parliament - London

Houses of Parliament is enhancing the experience offered to domestic and international visitors by introducing brand new audio tours as an alternative to the established guided tours. Both tours run most Saturdays throughout the year and on selected weekdays during holiday periods including Easter, Whitsun and August. The 75-minute guided tours start by following the route taken by The Queen at the State Opening of Parliament; from The Queen’s Robing Room, through the Royal Gallery, and into the majestic Lords Chamber. Unlike The Queen, who is not allowed into the Commons Chamber, visitors can stand on the floor of the House and imagine the lively debates. The tours end in Westminster Hall, where Guy Fawkes and King Charles I were tried, and where Nelson Mandela and Barack Obama have addressed Parliament in recent years.
